Collaborative Divorce

Collaborative Family Law

The traditional divorce process can often be contentious. For people seeking an amicable divorce, the collaborative law process may provide a valuable alternative.

Collaborative law is a relatively new concept that is gaining popularity. In a collaborative law divorce, each spouse is represented by an attorney trained in collaborative law. In a collaborative divorce, a team of professionals is handed picked by the parties to work toward an amicable resolution of the case without court intervention. Both spouses and their attorneys sign an agreement stating clearly that the attorneys will withdraw as counsel if the case goes to court.

By reducing the threat of court, the parties are often able to focus more deliberately on issues that must be resolved through communication and negotiation. Because each party is represented by separate counsel, they are ensured that they will receive sound advice and representation throughout their case.
